Do you enjoy the arts? There is no better way to experience it than by visiting the iconic Gold Coast destination that combines art, entertainment, culture, and lifestyle.
The 17-hectare HOTA facility in Evandale has been a centre of practically continual expansion and evolution since its inception. It all began when the City purchased the land in the 1960s, and the Gold Coast Civic Centre, with its distinctive three-story glass beehive form built by local architect Alan Griffith, opened with great fanfare in 1976.
It was in 2018 that HOTA, Home of the Arts, underwent a rebranding. This makeover marked the transition toward a more modern era. So, if you want to enjoy cabarets, exhibitions, films, theatre, or workshops, among other things, HOTA is the place to go.
Here are a few of the many things you can see at HOTA.
Exhibition – HOTA Collects
Galleries 2, 3 & 4
Make a point of visiting this permanent exhibition on your visit to HOTA. HOTA Collects, a three-gallery display of over 100 pieces from HOTA’s Collection, illustrates important movements in Australian art over the last 50 years, including abstraction, feminist art, Indigenous art, ceramics, and twenty-first-century photography.
Cabaret – The No Bang Theory & Chameleon
September 9
There will be two shows, two fantastic performers, and an evening of stories about belonging, connection, love, and life. The No Bang Theory, composed and performed by Oliver Hetherington-Page, kicks off the evening. Next is the Chameleon.
Chameleon makes its Gold Coast debut after previously wowing audiences at Queensland Theatre Company, Adelaide Fringe Festival, QLD Cabaret Festival, Wynnum Fringe Festival, and The Butterfly Club in Melbourne.
Classical Music – Camerata & Lior: Compassion

HOTA will showcase an excellent collaboration that has been years in the making.
