Be part of the 2014 Centre of Melbourne Cup when the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre hosts this annual event – considered as the “race that stops a nation.”
This highly revered sporting, cultural and social event continually plays a significant part in defining the national identity of Australia.
The Melbourne Cup began in 1861 with the first winner was hailed in front of approximately 4,000 people. The event displayed the Australian community’s passion for thoroughbred racing.
Currently, the Melbourne Cup is the richest handicap race held in Australia and is one of the world’s richest horse races.
By the year 1880, a hundred thousand people went to Flemington to attend the Melbourne Cup. A phenomenal attendance considering there were only 290,000 people in Melbourne.
This 2014, participants and spectators from all over the world are expected to attend the Centre of Melbourne Cup when it starts on November 4, 2014, 1130am – 500pm at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, 2684 Gold Coast Highway.
The event is a quick drive and walk from our Broadbeach Family Apartments.
