In collaboration with The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Claire Goodwin presents a showcase reading of Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning play Angels in America with her dynamic ensemble of actors & artists. The event is the result of an Artist in Residency in The Space granted by The Arts Centre Gold Coast for the rehearsal and development of artistic production.
A rare event in any context, Angels in America is an epic masterpiece that dances amongst themes and characters in a sweeping panorama encompassing the most elemental realities of our existence. Kushner transports us to characters of such depth and colour, they are both comic and tragic, demonic and delectable, factual and fictitious. The work is haunted with death, yet full of hope; so magical, yet all too real. The play takes us from earth to heaven, to Washington, the Kremlin, the South Bronx, Antarctica and to the private lives of its inhabitants.
“Something rare, dangerous and harrowing … a roman candle hurled into a drawing room.” Nicholas De Jongh, LONDON EVENING STAR
“Fiercely humane, gloriously informed, compassionate, uncompromised … also falling-down funny.” Linda Winer,NEWSDAY
